The ICAN®Model: A Change Model for Transformation

Recently I have been extremely busy with get my book The Aha  Moment  published.

Thankfully it is now out there for everyone to read. However, I must say that it has been quite a journey for me and I wanted to share some of my learning with you.

Of course, you can buy the book for yourself, and I hope after this blog you will buy my book and find that it helps you as much as others have. However, I wanted to just share a little of what was going on for me so that you would have a glimpse of the process that I took. You might even decide to write your own story.

As a therapist, I had many insights and stories to tell but when I started writing I really didn’t know what I wanted to put down on paper. I had a total mind block…. all those pearls of wisdom just left me and I couldn’t find the nugget that I was wanting to share with the world. Things started to come alive when I looked at the areas in my life where I had overcome difficulties. I also then realised that what had been my challenges also was happening for my clients yet somehow, I had been completely blind to that.

My story was that I had been a Yo-Yo dieter since the age of 14 and had never learnt that to keep the weight off. You see I was so ‘addicted to the feeling of control’ that I had during the weight loss program that I never really wanted to learn how to keep the weight off permanently. So, I never learnt how to make sure that what I had lost STAYED OFF!!!

It was while I was exploring ways to maximise brain changes that I finally learnt how I could make those changes stick. I found there were three natural barriers to change

  1. When our Heart and Head MUST Work as a Team otherwise, we are going to have problems
  2. That our Brain like to Change bur that it Prefers to Stay the Same which means that we need to practise a new way of being
  3. Our Brain Confuses Perception with Truth. this means that often we are running a program based past knowledge to understand a present moment

But all is not lost: When we begin to notice or become alerted to the pattern, we activate our my brain’s natural mismatch mechanisms. This is the key to change happening.  By noticing and taking action of when I was doing my ‘bad habit’ I could automatically change it. This then instantly primed my neurology to anticipate future situations where I might relapse into my old ways which allowed me to make different choices.

Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955) commented that “No problem can ever be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it” and that the definition of  “is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result”.

So, I had to do something that I hadn’t done before – I had to focus on changing my brain so that I could persistently manifest those change behaviours, with limited effort at all. I was effectively wanting to create a new state of being for me.

From my learning, I created the ICAN® Model, which is designed to create incremental changes in your brain every time that you do a targeted action to encourage brain changes. What we are trying to do is increase energy in our brain neurons by repeatedly doing specific actions that help us to reach a threshold level where we can experience an Aha Moment. This is the game changer because not our whole brain starts communicating and drives us towards an action. We literally get lift off.

Current research is investigating the use mind altering drugs to generate Aha Moments to help people change habitual behaviours and guess what, the treatment has been shown to be effective. But there is a catch, people did slowly relapse back into their old ways. I believe this is because people have not done the actual work to ensure that the transformation sticks and that means that their old patterns were still running.

After my big Aha Moment, I realised that these intensely spiritual-like states could be created naturally, without drugs. If we could only produce these mental states then we could have permanent change that is relatively effortless and easy. The ICAN® Change Transformation Model does just this. ICAN® uses any psychotherapeutic modality that focuses on generating emotional charge that facilitates Aha Moments to happen. Therapies such as:

  1.  Hypnotherapy
  2. Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP_
  3. Eye Moement & Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  4. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
  5. Clean Language
  6. Coherence Therapy
  7. Yoga & Meditation Practises

Thus, because ICAN® is designed to help you to generate your own intuitive Aha Moment it is a very safe and effective programme for you to do.
